Those interested in Butler's Rangers should take a look at my web site at http://www.iaw.on.ca/~awoolley/brang/brang.html

At the end of the Revolution, John Butler settled at Niagara where he died in May 1796. During the War of 1812 his home was destroyed, his personal papers lost, and the regimental colours of the Rangers looted, when the Americans burned the village of Niagara-on-the-Lake (for which, in part, the British burned Washington, DC). The site of his house lay unknown for almost 190 years, but was recently discovered. Parks Canada has conducted an archaelogical dig, which is almost complete. Artifacts from the site will go into local museums.
