Quannah Parker, was quite a figure.

It's been some time since I've read up on him, but the thing that stands out, in my mind, was the Adobe Walls affair ... a small group of Buffalo Hunters, holed up in these adobe ruins ... kind of an Alamo in reverse.

Quannah was one of the allied Indian leaders against this bunch, united in a last ditch effort to drive them from the southern plains & save their food supply ... Commanche, Kiowa, Southern Cheyenne, Arapaho, Kiowa/Apache, maybe an Oglala Sioux or two.

It didn't work out for the Indians, though they greatly outnumbered their foe ... those Buffalo guns, and the cover, proved to be too much.

A couple of good books, overviews on the Plains Indians Wars, are "The Long Death" & "Death on the Prairie." I'm not sure that either one is in print at this time
