: : : : : : : Jo you better get that tipi set up and ready for Y2K. Thats one thing that the kids watch when we do demos at schools. It is not hard to break the tips when setting the tripod. As tight as the rope has to be wrapped and if you spread the base to far out they snap fast. I have a lot of information on the pc if you would like it. Let me know and I'll email it to you asap. Things like: year round living in the tipi, ozans, painting the cover and liner, setting postions, etc. And Dana that wigwam was half my problems. There is no way to build it and be able to travel with it. Jo was that you that said we would use tents to stay in for Gathering 2000? If so are you going to bring your tipi? Sound like a good idea Dana?

: : : : : : Thanks for the help will email you......No it was NOT me who suggested tents/teepees for the Y2K Gathering; heavens; the bunkhouse was enough of a camping event in a building....leaping up to the top bunk was a feat that I am glad no one witnessed...will be interesting to see what the next lodgings will be...to be able to walk to a bed and get in it....can't bring the teepee....must weigh 40 or so pounds in canvas...not mentioning the poles....don't think TWA would appreciate the "extra" luggage...
: : : : : : but it would be an idea....

: : : : : : Jo

: : : : : Hi Jo,

: : : : : Actually, we're hoping to have cabins available this time around.
: : : : : If all goes well, we'll be able to reserve/procure/steal a group of cabins. As close to a Mohicanland *village* setting we can get. One of these cabins will (HOPEFULLY) be set up as a Trading Post.

: : : : : Marcia is vacationing in the area right now & is scouting out some possible locations.

: : : : : Sooooo ... if anyone is interested in utilizing the Trading Post for goods contact either myself or Sarah M.

: : : : : If Doctor Mary can be persuaded to abandon her quack practice for the weekend of the Gathering, maybe she'll manage her own little charlatan cabin in Mohicanland.

: : : : : Those who prefer motel accommodations will still have that option.

: : : : ______

: : : : (Hey, HELLOOOOO Marcia! Good hunting for cabins/accommodations....)
: : : : I think I can safely say that the Sweetsers four will have a great time (as everyone else will) even in cabins....sort of will miss the Bunkhouse; Marcia certainly had it decorated so nice last time...
: : : : The trading post sounds like a great idea. Should be interesting.

: : : : Jo

: : :
: : : I think the Trading Post sounds interesting, too, Jo. I'll probably buy one of everything. Boy, I wish I had been to the first two Gatherings. Sounds like y'all had such a good time. I have to admit, I didn't know there was a REAL bunkhouse. That must have been very cozy. And the beds you mentioned...that wouldn't be the kind where the top bunk is about 10 feet from the floor, would it? I've never met you, but I still laughed at the thought of anyone trying to climb into one of those. I'm sure whatever Marcia comes up with will be great. I'm looking forward to hearing about all of her "finds" when she gets back.

: : Dana,
: : Yes, everyone had a GREAT time at both of the Gatherings; wish you could have been there also...yes, there really was a "bunkhouse"....and the type of bunks, no ladders or sidebar help up to the top (now, if you were in shape like Chris and Carol; no problem....I am a breed apart of being in shape however...)...and the bunks were, oh, maybe if my legs were 6 feet they'd launch me up to the top without so much as a by my leave...but like old Gnome boy....vertically challenged. )And yes, they were that 10' from the floor types...
: : However, the bunkhouse was a great place to preview auction items; get the cup of coffee in the morning; and Marcia had it so nicely decorated.....(Mr. Schweig actually sat down in the bunkhouse for the raffle and what-not....) and then there was the bonfire outside the last evening of the second Gathering which was very interesting; at least Soldier #2 and Jeff enjoyed it!
: : All at the Gathering; you have to be there to experience...
: : Jo

:
: Thanks for sharing about the Gathering, Jo! * still laughing about the bunks* I am looking SO forward to going. Somebody mentioned the bonfire in an earlier post, and I thought it all sounded so neat. I am still AMAZED that so many nice people managed to find each other and have such a good time...being perfect strangers in the beginning. I met Jayne (from this board) last week for lunch, for example. I felt like I'd run in to a good friend I hadn't seen in years. We both talked non-stop for more than an hour while I scarfed my brouchetta and she nibbled her chicken salad. Jayne had so many fun things to share. I have no trouble believing the Gathering will be just as rewarding! Thanks again, Rich and Elaine!!... and EVERYBODY who makes this board such a nice place!

: Dana

Thanks, Dana, for the nice comments about getting together. Looking forward to seeing you again soon; and also looking to June and the Gathering!
