Historical Trekkers

I have been poking aroung some of the links from this site and stumbled across some very interesting historical trekker/reenactor sites. What is the difference between a trekker and a reenactor? Also, are their any female trekkers, or is historical accuracy important in trekking? I like all the fun women's costumes (like Caitlin's!!), but I also think it would be fun to rent some buckskins and "rough it" for a weekend. I don't relish the thought of trekking as a "camp follower"!
