: : Hi everyone!

: : Here are two more websites about Tecumseh:
: : http://www.tippecanoe.com/tec_hist.htm (History of T. and the battle of Tippecanoe)
: : http://www.geocities.com/SouthBeach/Cove/8286/warrior.html (talks about history and T.'s family)

: : I remember asking two Shawnee women about their opinion of the movie, and they were not very fond of it. They said it had some good parts, but they had seen too many things in it that were historically incorrect to really like the movie. That was interesting for me to hear because, not knowing about any of those mistakes, I had gone away thinking it was a pretty good movie. What they criticized in particular (among a number of other things) was that the director had hired a man as an advisor for the movie who they said is known to have started a "fake tribe" in Ohio, falsely claiming to be Shawnee. From what I understand, this man and his followers claim to descend from a group of Shawnees who (as they claim) stayed behind in Ohio when everyone else was forced to move to Kansas. The two ladies who explained this said that in truth, no families stayed behind, that all people were accounted for, that their tribe has records about that and that this self-declared advisor and his followers were liars. I noticed that the movie actually mentions this supposedly staying behind of a group of families, so the advisor had his version of history built into the movie.

: : I still enjoyed watching the movie, but thought that was interesting.

: Hi Petra!

: You're right. It is interesting. I do remember reading about this. You don't recall the *advisor's* name, do you?

: Thanks for the Shawnee perspective.

Hi Elaine,

I could have sworn I posted a response this morning, I guess I must have forgotten to hit the post button twice, duh!
Anyway, I think that advisor's last name is Pope. His name is mentioned at the end of the movie in the credits. His group has a website somewhere too that seems to be the source of much controversy.
