There is a lot of interesting dialogue in Deerslayer, MMMMarcia. One gets to know what Hurry Harry and Natty think about the issues while also getting those wonderful word paintings of Glimmerglass. Hurry Harry sticks his foot in his mouth more than I do, however, he doesn't seem to notice. And, like Gayle mentioned earlier, the tours through the abodes of the Hutters...I didn't just FEEL like I was there, I WANTED to be there. All that information in just the first three chapter's, and it was completely painless!
