: : : : Good morning,

: : : : For those of you still looking for DVD players (who isn't?) for TV, here are a couple of interesting links I've found.

: : : : www.epinions.com offers people's "epinions" and ratings on a wide variety of products. It's interesting reading and might help you select a product.

: : : : If you are looking for a low price, a website called Best Stop Digital finds the lowest price on the web, from which you can order your DVD player.

: : : : Although, I'm still taken with Kate's idea of getting one for the PC so she can grab pictures. Decisions, decisions....

: : : I went to Sears this weekend and bought a great Toshiba DVD player for $340.00 This little baby has everything!! Dolby, DTS, etc, and a great slo-mo fowards and backwards, Zoom!, and alternate angles if the dvd has that. This thing has everything for a realitively low price....GO GET IT!!!

: : : Its model 3109

: : Hi Norm --
: : Toshiba seems to be a really good brand for DVDs at a good price. I was looking at the next one down, the 2109, which seems to get really good reviews. It's nice to know Sears carries Toshiba, because I would rather get it locally than over the web. But I do have to do my price comparisons!

: : Thanks for the info.

: : Cheers,

: Yes, Toshiba is an excellent brand. Many years ago I bought a small Toshiba TV for my bedroom. It has had water poured down it( while it was on!!) dropped and all round roughed up. It still works like a champ. The color is still as sharp as th day I bought it. My JVC TV in the livingroom is just as old and the color is faded and all around doesn't perform as well. I have since purchased Toshiba Stereos, cassette decks and now DVD players. I'm totally sold on the Toshiba brand. Next I will buy a Toshiba sourround-sound system. This a great company with great stuff.

: By the way, When does the LOTM DVD come out?

November 23rd.

Toshiba makes great players, the 2109 and 3109 are both good entry-level players, and the new 5109 is awesome if you are willing to spend some more money.

Panasonic's lower end player, the A120, is also good and should be available around $250 or less (around the same as the Tos 2109). The lowest of the low, the sub-200 players by no-names, should still give good quality, but I feel you'd be better off with the Panasonics or Toshibas, the extra money is worth it (IMHO).

www.earthstations.com is a good place to find the Tosh's and Panasonics. I bought my Toshiba 3107 from them about 14 months ago with good results. Also, http://www.sounddistributors.com/dvd.htm is suppose to be pretty good (though I've never ordered anything there, and they appear to be a bit higher priced than Earthstations). And Onecall is also pretty good (http://sql.onecall.com/About.mpt?ProductLineID=6), they get good reviews for customer service. With the Toshiba 2109, they offer 5 free movies, 20 total free rentals, a $10 off coupon for buying a dvd at dvdexpress.com , and a buy 1 DVD get one free from reel.com. If you take advantage of all the offers, you are really well under $200 for the cost of the player:
