: I have before me, in my hot little hands, the Infamous Director's Expanded Edition of You-Know-What, and I must say, I am a bit puzzled. According to the info on the package, the expansion is only to 117 minutes, and my old THX version says it is 114 minutes. So, it would seem only three minutes have, indeed, been added. BUT, the scenes listed as containing additional footage are MANY...??

: There is a little "note" on a separate sheet of paper saying, quote:
: "This movie has been re-edited by Michael Mann. It is his definitive vision of the film. In order to create it, certain shots had to be lengthened, resulting in a momentary jump in the image."

: And according to the other insert, here are the scenes which have additionl footage added:

: The Cameron House
: The New Major
: The Scotsman's Daughter
: The War Party
: The Siege
: Magua's Hate (one for Ros!)
: A Run to Fort Edward
: The Escape Plan
: Lovers
: Terms for Surrender
: Magua's Pain (you go, Ros!)
: The Defeated
: Escape
: Stay Alive...
: Last of the Mohicans

: Now I don't know about you guys, but to ME, that looks like a heck of a lot of modified scenes for only THREE additional minutes of running time! What the heck....???.....

:
: Also, it doesn't look like anything pertaining to Uncas & Alice was expanded, unless it is during the "Stay Alive" part, which one would THINK pertained still to Hawkeye & Cora. I think the "Lovers" scene refers to H & C on the ramparts, judging by its placement in the script.

: I can't wait to play this, but won't be getting the rental DVD player until Mark gets home...wouldn't know how to hook it up if I DID get it earlier. *sigh..........* Guess I won't know anything for sure until tonight!

: Hope some of you others are receiving packages in the mail today, too. Soon, all our questions will be answered, eh?

Hi MMMMarcia -

Mine is in hand too, but darn it -- I can't find anyone renting a DVD player. This is a really bad time of year for springing for one but the new roof this fall prevented me from doing it before. Phoooey!!!

I too wonder about the 114 in the widescreen version, -- perhaps that includes the featurette?

I'm rooting for the expanded "Stay Alive..." scene to include the missing Uncas/Alice section.

Whatever happens, tonight isn't my lucky night for this.

Speak to you soon,
me
