: : I have a question for the videophiles out there. We only bought our copy of LOTM about 2 months ago, and at the time, I didn't realize there were several versions out there. In reading through the discussions of the new DVD, there's been so much talk about the THX version, and the improvement from the standard VHS version. I've checked the tape inside and out and can't find any THX label, but all the things you've talked about not being able to see in the dark scenes are easily seen in ours. There are about 18 Indians following the party as they approach FWH, and the scene is so light it almost looks like they're in daylight. This is the Premier Edition/Wide Screen. Does anyone know if this is THX? All our other THX videos we own have it clearly marked, but this one does not. Thanks. YRH

: Hi, NightSky...if your video came in a plastic hinged box, with the trailer & a featurette included, it is the wide-screen, THX version. I don't know of any other LOTM video that is THX. My picture is, like yours, plenty bright enough to see the Ottawa, etc, and even in the dark scenes, for the most part, visibility is good. Not as crisp as the DVD, but still, very good. The sound is excellent, too.

________

Nightsky, and Marcia;
My copy of LOTM, which I brought years ago only came in a shrink plastic wrap; but did include the soundtrack on cassette, within the shrink wrap, (which has since been worn out; on my third); it is very dark, but I do see the "Ottawa's" following the party on their way to the Fort; the "numbers" on my box are: "VHS", "94O6", and "Hi-Fi Stereo, Mono Compatable".
It has no trailers, no extras, is otherwise very, I guess, in different scenes, dark as I assume others are; and the sound, if I just turn on the movie, using just the TV speakers is a bit different than if my hubby turns on the "surround sound".....it is in the Letterbox style.

I have no idea if this helps; this is the version I have.
