: Kate,

: A very fine quilt you made for Eric. Like the symbolism you put into it. I thought I might tell you, should you not be aware, that the use of the Fraser tartan was still appropriate. During the French and Indian War, one of the Highland units that served here was Fraser's Highlanders. They served with distinction at Louisbourg and Quebec, both times under Major General James Wolfe. Though the modern tartan was probably not what they wore, the clan distinction is most appropriate. Well done!!!

Thank you, Major! Those lovely sentiments are much appreciated!

Well, I DID know that the Fraser Highlanders were in the Colonies, but did not know of any specific 'theatres of war'! So - that is really VERY interesting!!! Actually, I chose it for the Simon Fraser who gave his name to many of the British Columbia geographical features, ie River etc. (I am also of Clan Fraser, but that had nothing to do with it, I swear!!) So yes, it seems it was even more appropriate than I was aware of!! Well done indeed, clever me! :0) hehe!

And you are quite correct, it was the modern 'Dress' Fraser I used - 'Ancient' and 'Hunting' not being available in the fabric I was using. I would have preferred an 'ancient' tartan, to keep the symbolism along the lines of 'in the past' but had to think of the practicalities of sewing with different materials and then, from a woman's point of view, WASHING it!! (Woolie tartan is NOT easy to wash!! ;0(

Thank you SO MUCH for that potted history of my OWN clan *hanging head in shame at not knowing this!* As per normal, you've given us more really interesting information, and have allowed us to view the past just a little more clearly!

Take care, Major Bray and a very MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOURS!!
Best wishes,
Kate.
PS - Well, Rich, apart from the new 'owner', there is your 'six degrees joining the quilt to LOTM - it contains tartan of the clan that fought with Wolf, Wolf fought Montcalm at the Heights of Abraham, Montcalm took William Henry from Colonel Monro... how am I doing?
