: Well, I'd hate to end the year with an irrelevant post ... Perish the thought. So ... I must connect the film, "Meet Joe Black" to "The Last of the Mohicans."

: First of all there are two sisters in both films, one of whom is named "Alice." Do it for you? Then, too, both take place near, or along, New York's Hudson River. In fact, "Meet Joe Black" takes place in Poughkeepsie, deep in the heart of Mohican country, and very near where Elaine & I lived for seven years (See our page: From The Mohicans' Land To MohicanLand). How's that? Both have marvelous musical scores. Both have a sex scene without the sex! There's probably more, but just to officially connect them, one of "Meet ..."'s stars is Brad Pitt, who also co-starred with "LOTM"'s Madeleine Stowe in "12 Monkeys." So, it's official. I can post this.

: I had seen "Meet Joe Black" a while back and really enjoyed it. Saw it again on DVD with one of our 15 free rentals from Netflix (courtesy of Toshiba!) and it it blew me away. One of my all-time favorites, I think. A romantic fantasy that is just chock-full of hit-at-home realities. Things you can really relate to ... good lessons, good philosophies, an over-all VERY positive, well crafted film! Oh, and that music! SO powerful & mood inducing. Beautiful. Just thought I'd recommend it. If you've got nothing better to do tonight, and you've never seen it, go out and rent it. It will be an "up" ending to your century's passing!

: Wishing you ALL a very Happy (and, especially, safe) New Year!

: For MohicanLand this has been a mostly wonderful year! Immense growth, meeting many new friends, a fantastic Gathering, and the DVD release of LOTM! What we hope for in the coming year, is an end to computer woes so that we can get some of our favorite characters back here again! Down & out currently, because of their computers, that WE know of, are Champ, Pilgrim Penny, MMMM, and someone else, whose name escapes me at the moment (Sorry!).

: A word of warning: Later tonight, we'll be archiving the Board, starting fresh with the New Year. Let's hope it all goes well!

: Thanks to all of you who sent donations for Ariel's Auction, and especially to Kate who won the Agnes Thrasher painting. All monies have been received and sent on to Ariel's family. A most generous gesture from you all.

: Thanks, ALL, for your support!

Dear Rich --

I think I'll have to pass on Meet Joe Black if the music is as you say -- one musical musing study is enough for me!! And I still have to do the DVD version of LOTM!

I'm so glad Kate won the painting -- she deserves it, after the quilt she made for Eric. What goes around, comes around. I would like to propose you should don't completely close down the Ariel Fund, because some people might not have been able to contribute at this time, and her expenses will continue on, and almost certainly increase. Perhaps an on-going fund... Something akin to the 'adopt a child' programs elsewhere in the world, we could help on an continual basis, if her family would except that from 100 or so 'adoptive parents/friends' in MohicanLand... We get reports of her progress, new pictures, etc. That would be kinda fun for us! Just a thought.

Best Wishes to Rich and Elaine and all my MohicanLand family for a happy, safe, healthy New Year. After 1999, I can't wait to see what comes to MohicanLand in 2000 -- but I'm not sure I can handle sny more excitement and wonder and amazing experiences than I had this year!!

LHK (Lots of Hugs and Kisses) to everyone,
Sarah M.
