: : I dimly recall from the deep recesses of my programmer past that the date which showed up on your computers was the date when some PC's internal clocks were started when they were first marketed commercially.....in other words, for the personal computer world, it was the birth of the computer and the starting date as the birth of Christ is the starting date of OUR calendar.  That was when the computer clock started ticking so to speak.  Some computers carried that date as "zero" while others made the assumption zero was "1900" if they were coded with only the last two digits.  For those whose clock started counting with that important date (for computer brains) when they turned the corner at 2000 instead of thinking it was 1900 all over again they assumed it was the birthdate of the PC all over again.
