: Well, VERY happy to see so many familiar names already gracing the fresh new Board! Welcome back! Are you ready for another year of mishap & mayhem?? Already, Bumppo's has been trashed (not to mention the fine workers of the USPS - slight plug there, sorry!) & sling shots are being fashioned, so ... It figures to be a wild one! Good!

: Decided it was time to remove the opening message on top of the Board, plus the Site Meter. Both, I feel, were necessary at one point, but THANKFULLY things seem to have calmed down considerably and we're willing to give up the facade of a "police state" for the time being. :) We were fortunate enough to be able to track & deter several would-be hackers and will continue to monitor the entire site, behind the scenes, with our Access Watch program, though that is intended more for site maintainence & redesign ... Anyway ...

: Believe it or not, there ARE still things we hope to do with this Web Site before all is said & done, so, stay tuned! Meanwhile ...

: The Gathering 2000 - Things SHOULD, hopefully (please, God!) be finalized sometime during this month. At that point, we'll begin taking reservations for the Packages (with & without lodging) & the theater tickets. Never has interest been so high. I am amazed! The movie theater only holds 75. I don't know if we'll go that high or not, but I would suggest reserving as early as possible (NOT YET!!!) 75 seems to be a maximum comfortable group size anyway, though we have no plans to limit attendance at the other events ... yet. Dates, again, are June 23 - 25.

: Charting LOTM Territory - As promised, we intend to flesh out that page over the next month or so. That is, with geographical place names as they relate to "The Last of the Mohicans." We NEED your help on this one! Anything of the sort in your neck-of-the woods? Let us know! Photos welcomed, in fact, desired! Send us scans, if possible, in .jpg format, or mail actual photos to:

: Mohican Press
: PO Box 123
: Marion, NC 28752

: Thanks!

: News & Notes - Cooper's Cave, in Glens Falls, NY, WILL be reopening!!! What a treat THAT will be! See our "Dispatches From The Frontier: News & Notes" Page for more on that!

: Well, a 4 day weekend allowed for PLENTY of time with my TV Guide, so, of possible related interest on The History Channel this month:

: Thursday -- 01/27/2000
: 8:00/5:00 The Strange Disappearance of the Anasazi. 19th-century explorers
: in the American southwest encountered the ruins of a vanished civilization
: that spread across Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona. Why were these
: spectacular cities abandoned? Where had the inhabitants gone? Modern
: anthropologists hint at a disturbing past in contrast with earlier peaceful
: perceptions. (cc) [TV G]

: Monday -- 01/31/2000
: 10:00/7:00 The Internet: Behind the Web. Over 200 million people around
: the
: world use the Internet--yet no one owns or controls it. Its phenomenal
: usage
: puts it on a par with the printing press as a civilization-shaping
: invention. We'll follow the rise of the Net as a humble defense department
: research project to its stature as the number one communications tool for
: the future. [TV G]

: Anyone intending to attend The Barcole Foundation's "Winds of Change" Festival this year, rates for group lodging are greatly reduced if you make your reservations THIS month. See our "Eric Schweig: News & Appearances" Page for details. Plus, the Foundation has their own site up now, courtesy of Rose & Joni's Eric Schweig Site ... You might enjoy a visit. Link is on our ES Pages.

: Thanks to help from the TowneCryer's new Publishing Company, I DO plan to put a companion volume to "On The Trail Of The Last Of The Mohicans" together over the next several months. Where I'm going to go with it & what it will contain are very much up in the air right now. Suggestions welcomed! It will NOT be in full color this time, except for the covers. That will allow two things. One, to make it much more comprehensive, and two to keep the cost WAY down. Plan is to offer the two together. Those who have already bought the first book, can order the new one at a discount. Got to work that out. So, if there's something you'd like to see, or NOT see, in the new book, do let me know!

: One other thing we've been toying with is to create a Board Photo Gallery, of some kind, to put in the "Off The Beaten Trail ..." section of this site, which is primarily intended for frequent visitors anyway. We have so many neat photos of you all that have been sent our way, we'd like to make use of at least some of them. If you have any objection to this please let us know!! Most of the photos have been posted here, or elsewhere, at one time or another ...

: And that's that for this time! Happy New Year, one more time!

: PS - OH, the PHOTO!? The Sweetser 4 & Mark & Sarah Z., part of the California Contingent, get together ...

Well, let's pretend it's still Sunday so I can state: what a nice update, Rich, Thank you!
And thanks for the TV update; glad you had SEWWWWWW much time!
A new book sounds great to me! (I can just imagine Elaine tearing her hair out over this...)
The photo gallery sounds interesting also.
And what a nice picture! It was great to see Sarah and Mark...And my sister Mary isn't talking! How strange....That's my sister Karen's hubby, Buck, sitting to the right; don't know where Kathie is; probably in the
kitchen....we had a wonderful time! Wish you all could have been there; maybe we'd be able to have a Bumppo's tavern, the western edition.... you know those plains, and the Sierra's
are hard to get across to make it to Bumppo's...but the gnome makes it, so maybe I'm wrong!
Maybe better stick with the original before we franchise out...

Jo

Can you believe it, a fourth year!!!
