: : I also heard that DDL did the same sort of preparation for The Crucible. When he gets into a part, he REALLY gets into it! PP

: And I heard that DDL did the same thing in The Age of Innocence--that he even registered in his hotel as "Newland Archer", and walked around with a hat, a cane, and all of the mannerisms of his character. I don't know if it's true or not, but it wouldn't surprise me!

Yes, I'd heard all of these things too, plus read the accounts on the MP pages that said he carried that gun wherever he went, and stayed in character. What a trip that must be, to be around an actor that does that even when he's not acting! I remember also reading that he left the set each night and went to a secluded cabin somewhere. I'm not sure how many of the usual amenities it was lacking, though!

I read a quote from him once, commenting on his acting ability: "I'm good at pretending I'm someone I'm not," or something to that effect. HE SURE IS!!!
