Hi Dana:

Thanks for sharing all of your interesting comparisons between life in 17th century and 21st century America very amusing and quite true.

Another interesting aspect about the Hall case was that the courts and ordinary citizens had no qualms about ordering Hall to act and dress in a certain way or to undergo numerous physical exams to determine Halls gender. There was no concern about invading Halls privacy or about the rights of the individual because the community at large was considered more important than any one individual. It was vitally important while trying to forge and maintain a new society that each person in the society know their place and act accordingly. When Halls ambiguous sexuality confused others about Halls place within the community, the citizenry felt that it was their duty to pursue the matter in the courts. Unfortunately there isnt much know about how the citizenry reacted to the courts decision that Hall live as both a man and a woman. I would love to know.

Best wishes,
Goody Sandy
