: ::I was very shocked and saddened to wake up to the news of Mike Phillips' death. The interview MP did with him was one of the best and we are so very fortunate to have gotten a small glimpse into this incredible man. As for Colleen McDonald from the 1920 Mohicans...she has gone onto hospice and is no longer eating. Donna had offered the great idea of sending her cards, but it is really not possible. She wouldn't understand what they were for. I am meeting with her family in the next day or two and I will see if there is anything we Mohicanlanders can do for them. And another grim piece of news I have to add, as if all this weren't enough. On the news this morning there was a story about a murder/suicide. A mother apparently killed her children and then herself. The reason I bring this up is--it is my sister's boss's sister-in-law (and my former boss). That is getting way too close to home for my comfort! Sorry to be such an downwer, but I had to share this with my fellow Mohicanites. Here's hoping that tomorrow will be a much better day!...PP
It is so sad to hear of Mike Phillips' death and also to hear that Ms. McDonald is not doing well. How fortunate we were to have gotten to know them a little. Thanks so much for sharing her story with us. I hope she can be made comfortable, keep us updated. I've lost either a good friend or co-worker to breast cancer the last three Augusts in a row (it has me praying this one goes by without a loss.) It's odd how as we get older, there are a number of shooting stars that pass through our lives, enrich us, endear themselves to us, and once gone, help us appreciate our own lives all the more through our treasured experiences with them.
It is indeed tragic about the mother and her children. I can't imagine what torment a woman must feel to do such a thing, and when those tragedies hit so close to home, they stick with you for a while. I'll keep all their families, and Colleen as well, in my prayers.
