Hi Mohicangirl,

You have to remember that it's a movie, and the fights are choreographed. Nobody is actually getting hurt! :)

If Hawkeye HAD hit the Huron that kind of blow with his tomahawk, the Huron would have gone out like a light. A blow like that to his left temporal region would have blown him out like a candle.
The other thing is, if Hawkeye HAD hit him like that with his tomahawk edge on, HE would not have the TOMAHAWK in his hand any more than the Huron would have the knife in his hand. The hawk would have been pulled out of his hand and be buried in the poor chap's skull, taking some work to pull it back out again (Remember Ching pulling his hawk out of the Huron's back? took some effort and that was mainly soft tissue). In fact, one of the reasons for "twisting the knife" in someone is to break the seal so it can be extracted more easily, as well as cause the blood to flow more freely.

Oh I do so love to be gruesome!!!

Billy

: While watching the movie one night my mother commented that while Major Heyward was talking to Magua before the first massacre it sounded like Magua, while he was talking in Huron, said that he runs like a rabbit, not once but twice. I can kind of see where it sounds as if he says it. Also I was able to do slow motion on the scene with DDL killing the Indian that was about to kill Cora by slitting her throat. After he hits the indian in the head with the tomahawk the indian staggers away, but if you slow the movie down and look really closely you can see that he is still holding the knife. So, I am not really sure as to the accuracy of that scene, and whether or not Cora would have survived.
