SO! Hurry, it looks like there's nothin' left o' yer half-face shelter at all, and as for the canoe - - - I got one paddle and a new pair o' moccasins to get me anywheres I want to go for the time bein', I guess. Sure puts a crimp in my plans to go off huntin' for La Longue Carabine. Matter of fact, looks like I'll be stayin' put for some time until I can get me a new canoe built. . . unless some handy bounty money might buy me a ready-made one real quick. Hmmmmmm. Have to consider that. Think next year I'll take to hangin' my canoe in a tree. Ground ain't safe anymore in this unpredictable Colony. Think I'll meander up to Miss Marcia's and see if she knows what sent them crazy fools into such a dither.
