: : Ah, Miss Marcia (chew, swallow, sip of wine, dab chin with napkin), I knew this was to be a fine meal when I first laid eyes on it. But it is remarkably better when eaten in the presence of such a beautiful hostess sitting at the head of the table in a most gracious and elegant home than it would be consumed in the unsettling environment of the Dutch establishment. Permit me to compliment you on your outstanding cullinary skills as well as on your charm and intelligence. Am I to understand that you maintain this excellent home by yourself, alone and unaided by any stronger arm to lean on?

: My Dear, Esteemed Major, thank you so very much for your most gracious compliments. I am most gratified to hear that you have enjoyed the little dinner I whipped up for you, and that you consider my little home to be elegant and comfortable.

: Yes, alas, I do maintain my home and my Famous DownHome Kitchen by myself. Though I have had my share of courtly gentlemen callers, I have not yet made any choices on a permanent basis, that being a most serious decision, and not to be made lightly. Some say I am a breed apart, and make no sense, but I'm perfectly happy to remain an independent lady, until such time as I'm am completely certain of my choices.

: Would you care for an afterdinner drink, Major? I have some lovely blackberry brandy I've been saving for a special occasion. Let me pour you a glass, and you can relax here by the fire. I'll join you in few moments, after seeing to the tidying up of the kitchen.

: No one else really wants an afterdinner brandy, do they? DweebieBentonSheBeeholder? Didn't think so. Goodnight all, see you soon. So long, so long, out you go, aaaand bye-bye! There. All quiet now, Major. I'll fetch that blackberry brandy for you.

: *la, la, la* *soft humming, and the sound of a nice, BIG snifter of brandy being poured*

This certainly has been a fine evening, my dear. And this blackberry brandy - superb! I guess it's as well to take a bit of time to relax and enjoy a peaceful evening. I've been weeks on the trail after that rascal, Simon Girty, and seem no closer to finding him than I was when I started. You know, of course, that there is a substantial bounty on his head, as well as on the head of anyone who is found to be harboring the miscreant. Not that the bounty is significant to me, being hereditarily well-to-do, of course, but I plan to enforce the strongest penalties against Girty and his protectors. But that is no conversation to be carrying on with a gracious lady. Surely you can have no interest in such topics. Tell me, sweet lady, how do you manage to look so lovely by firelight this evening?
