: To the denizens of Mohicanland, a hale and hearty Hello! My husband, Bill MacLeod, and I will be joining you for the 2000 Gathering..we decided after wandering about the Mohicanland site that you all are an intriguing bunch, worth getting to know and (very important)not likely to haul us off to the asylum when we show up to hike the Cliff Trail in full 1750's attire. (Our family motto: "Any excuse to wear a costume"). Neither Bill nor I belong to any formal reenactment group, but my hobby is historical costuming and I have a wardrobe that covers circa 1100 to about 1870 a.d. Bill, in his spare time, does leatherwork and has crafted everything from Highland brogans to elegant tooled possibles bags. So, jumping into the spirit of the Gathering head first, we will be contributing a number of items to the raffle: A tooled Celtic knotwork belt pouch, suitable for men or women, a handsewn buckskin bag containing a flint tool set in antler for firemaking, a custom made men's shirt in the 1750's style, your choice of materials, with or without hand-embroidery, and a woman's 1750's day outfit ala Cora, including chemise, full skirt, and bodice. I will take measurements at the Gathering, get your color and material preferences, and then ship the clothing to you after it is completed. I will be bringing (and wearing!) a variety of outfits to the Gathering to give you an idea as to what you can expect. So, if you happen to see, hanging about the tavern, a petticoated lady who looks as if her stays are too tight and a kilted gentleman (Bill's family is from the Isle of Skye in Scotland)with a mug o' stout in one hand and a dirk in the other, do stop and say hello...oh, and many thanks to Miss Marcia, our near-by neighbor, for her kindness, enthusiasm and encouragement which have lead us to Mohicanland!
Sure is nice of you to post and let us know you're coming. I can't wait to meet you and your husband and take a gander at your garb. Gathering just keeps getting 'funner and funner'!!
