That was a good idea of yourn, Sheriff, usin' this hickory limb to pry up these old rotted boards here in the corner o' the corncrib. If we can just widen this hole enough to squeeze through, we'll detarmine yet what's goin' on in here. . . . yes, yes, just a little wider on the other side there . . . I can about get my shoulders through now. WHEW! whata smell o' polecat in this place! I'm gonna back out for a minute, and maybe we can stuff some o' the mint leaves from Miss Marcia's path edging in our mouths to ease off the stink. There, that should do it!

Now led shee, (mumble mumble) yeh I godd meh sho'lders troo . . . an' . . . 'ere I'm uhn! Puss 'at lidded bine knot in, an' den cub on in. We'll taig a loog arou'd. (spit, cough)
