"Mommy, Daddy!", Hiram and Hannah shouted as they met their parents at the airport. "We're so glad you're home! You should hear the stories that Dr. Uncle Mark has been telling us."
The mother sighed and the father had a twinkle in his eye. "Now, Dr. Uncle", the mother asked, "have you been filling your niece and nephew with stories about THOSE people?"
Father grew stern. "Dr. Uncle, you didn't tell them Angus jokes did you?"
Hannah looked up at her father with a big grin. "Aye, Daddy, he told us about Angus and the sheep!"
"Oh no!!", the mother and father cried, "how could you, Dr. Uncle Mark!"
"Now hold on!", said Dr. Uncle Mark. "I didn't tell them THOSE types of stories. I just told them about our ancestors during the Seven Years' War here in colonial America. You know, about Cpl. MacWilliam and his brother Davey Gunn, about Many Flags, Three Tales, Seamus and....."
"That's enough!", mother interrupted. "Now, children, let's go. Dr. Uncle, I don't think you see the children for awhile. You fill their heads with all these wild stories. I just don't know if it's good for them!"
Dr. Uncle looked at mother and father sadly. "But, Hiram and Hannah have learned so much. And I was hoping to take them to Fort Frederick in a week or so to show them where all the cousins met to rendezvous with the Patuxents."
The niece and nephew looked anxiously from Dr. Uncle Mark to their parents. They held their breath and as they heard father speak, they began to jump up and down.
Father smiled. "Well, I suppose that would be OK. Mother, they are good stories and a lot of the MacWilliam Chronicles are true. I think it would be fine if Dr. Uncle took the wee ones to Fort Frederick for a visit. But just remember.... NO Angus jokes!"
"Yippee! Pax Aye! Pax Aye!", shouted Hannah and Hiram. "We're off to Fort Frederick just like our ancestors. Huzzah!"
"Ok, my wee lad and lass", laughed Dr. Uncle Mark. "Why don't we begin to plan our adventure. On to Fort Frederick!"
