Sorry for the delay in responding to this one, Trevor. I wanted to earlier, but I had to get my mind "right."

: I'd just like to say that Last of the Mohicans is the best film I have
: seen in a very long time. The music, the strength of the characters,
: the imagery of the battles and the breath taking landscape! They go
: towards making a film that leaves you emotionally stunned but satisfied in the extreme! I love it!

: I am, however, in two minds as to whether or not I should see the new
: DVD version.

Well, based on your above statement, see it. There is more to the characters & more to the battle sequences IMHO. Now, there are those who will argue about the characters part. I, though, felt the difference immediately upon watching, and after reading Michael Mann's comments about how he purposefully set out to do just that (strengthen the characterizations), well, I'd say he was successful. The music is awesome both places, though you will, mosty likely, miss Clannad. Of course, the scenery is still there in all its splendor.

: I am afraid of having my hopes dashed and my overall
: enjoyment of the film ruined. I don't want that to happen.

I can't see that happening. Worst case scenario ... you can fling the disk out your window like an expensive frisbee & go on enjoying what you have.

: Having read
: the site, I was horrified to see a lot of the favourite quotes have
: been chopped!

: Will this ruin if for me?

That's funny ... I can watch it (the DVD) now, and barely notice the missing lines ... some of which I am emotionally attached to & used as quotes in my guide book. Horrified?? Settle down ... it ain't THAT bad!

I said this very early on, and it has proven, so far, to be true ... Among those who are FANatics about this movie (i.e.: US!), the tendency is to prefer the "original" (though it is debateable which version truly is the original!) Words here on the Board bear that out. Among the general public, however, as demonstrated by our poll (elsewhere on this Site), reaction would seem highly favorable ... So, bottom line, watch it without fear, enjoy it for what it is, and, in the end, make up your own mind!

: Should I see it?

Yes!

Hope that helps you ... and anyone else!
