1st Sgt Campbell,

I realize that me being just a MacWilliam of Clan Gunn, you Campbells lord it all over us. However, we are true Highlanders being from as far north in our beloved Scotland as one can go without falling into the brine. But, I am greatly insulted by being referred to as "could it be private" having received my promotion from our dear Captain Croy and damn proud of it! Furthermore, the name has no Irish connotation, so 'tis not MCWILLIAM, but MACWILLIAM! And, I am damn proud of the MAC in my name.
As for my brother Davey Gunn accepting money for putting up tents, I don't believe it! He is a true King's man (splash, splash) and would not think of receiving coin from a Campbell! However, if you want your tents put up before Friday eve when you arrive at the Fort, you had best get them to me posthaste.
My best to your dear wife. Uncle Quasi's rum punch will be awaiting her pleasure at the Fort.

I remain your most Humble and Obed't Servant. Pax Aye!

CORPORAL Malcolm Angus MACWilliam, 77th Reg't of Foot, Grenadiers
