My daddy LOVED scrapple -- he would fry it up on Sundays
and eat it with syrup. He tried to get the young Doctor
Mary and her mean sister to sample it, but alas. Something
about the pasty taupe color and the cat-foodish smell
was not alluring. Now shoofly pie and chicken and dumplings
and green tomato preserves -- those are different matters
entirely. And tastycakes are a staple food in Western PA
as well as that other eastern Pennsylvania city...the
name escapes me. I believe they're notable for cream
cheese and bad hockey teams, are they not? *snort! snort!*
