Three Tales,

He answers not. He no longer speaks kind words to me, though once he did saying I ment much to him. He taught me how to kiss, a custom new to us, and spoke of a bright future together. Those days were sweet but now he thinks of another as he scouts far from here. The Dogwoods and the Redbud are in bloom. Tell your friend I have begun my journey to the Muskingum where I will plant my corn, beans and squash. Once my parents lived on the banks of the river that bears the name you call us by, but now we must walk a trail that leads west to find a home and peace. The French and English brought their ancient animosities to Turtle Island. Each told us they were our brothers and must fight the other with them or lose all, and that God was on their side. I wonder which speaks the truth. Though men make war a sport it is women who have the most to lose.

Farewell,
Buffalo Woman
