Ronald, I, of course, have read some about the supposed surrender and subsequent execution of Davy Crockett and a few others who allegedly "surrendered." As a loyal Texan, I want to believe that Crockett fought to the death swinging his rifle ala Walt Disney's depiction. My point is whether he "fought to the death" or was captured and then executed, who cares? He and everyone who died at the Alamo are all heros. I don't think for a minute he or any of the others surrendered, but it's possible it's a problem of semantics. Let's remember what rifles they used there. Once they fired their rifles and the time came they couldn't reload them fast enough before being overwhelmed by the Mexicans and had to resort to swinging them like clubs or using their knives to defend themselves, sooner or later they would have been powerless to continue, and then those few were captured, not surrendered. I can see in my mind those few fighting till they couldn't anymore and then just being captured by the Mexicans. Isn't that just as likely a scenario? No matter how it happened, they were still all heroes, and Texans shouldn't be offended at the thought he was captured.
