Very tragic. Sounds like it was one of those freak things that sometimes happen.

It's interesting that I came back to the 21st century to find this story, having spent this past weekend in the Civil War myself. The Living History group to which I belong (not my F & I War Regiment) just presented our annual Ben Newton Memorial Civil War Event at Newtown Battlefield State Park near Elmira, NY. (Yes, it is Ben "Newton" and "Newtown" Battlefield... confusing.) It went very well, in spite of a rainy evening on Saturday that put a bit of a damper on our Candlelight Tours.
