I hear that the city of Morganton will have an LOTM related event next May 14th. This is not a Gathering as we know it (so I have been told). I guess it is the city's way or promoting itself. Of course, only the fort scenes were filmed nearby, but I guess you can count Linville as being "in the neighborhood" as well.

So I've heard. A guy from the Burke County Tourism office [Ed is his name] contacted me back in August wanting to do a collaboration with me for the 30th Anniversary of the film's release. I told him I was not up to it and sent him Eric's [Soldier #2] contact info. He would be more suited than I. It's nice they are doing it. Fitz, the people of Burke would probably consider Table Rock to be in their backyard as well.

No, I probably won't go. It falls on the same weekend as Martin's Station. I decided years ago that Martin's would always get the preference over other events. It seems that everything I want to do all happens at the same time interspaced with long periods of nothing.
