Weir Point at Little Bighorn

On my last trip to the battlefield I climbed both sides of Weir Point. The hill or point is split by a park road. I've been wondering from where Weir made his observations: Was it from the western part of the hill or the eastern point of the hill. From the west you can easily see the entire battlefield, with Reno Hill in the distance to the south, the field where Reno's skirmish line made its "stand" to the west, the entire area where the Indians' camps were, and way in the distance to the north, the National Cemetary and Last Stand Hill. So my next question is: The cut in the hill where the park road goes through, was this a natural cut in the hill or did the park service mutilate this important site? I've been trying to have this question answered for months with no luck. Anybody have any input?
