i was surprise to learn that my gggrandfather, charles t. or r white served with this unit. he was from giles county, virginia. he enlisted in 1861 and fought some battles prior to gettysburg. charles t/r white was wounded in the right knee at gettysburg on 3 july 1863. on a disability form i found in the archives of the university of virginia
he listed his chain of command as:
kemper
pickett
terry
hines or hynes
when he first enlisted in the "new river rifles" his company commander was a capt. william eggleston.
i would be pleased to hear from other members of the 24th Virginia Regiment. i am now trying to join the sons of confederate veterans
