"See You In June!"
The GREAT MOHICAN GATHERING Pages
Reflections of Gatherings Past Memories of Gatherings From One Who Knows. . .
…because Donna has been to them all!
1998 Driving into Chimney Rock Park for the first time and seeing Soldier #2 (Eric Hurley) in full costume, standing guard in front of the entrance to Chimney Rock Park. I knew I was in the right place. The thrill of seeing the locations in person for the first time.
1999 Admiring John Evans's extensive prop collection from the movie. The thrill of seeing Eric Schweig join us at Chimney Rock Park. He was pleasant, took pictures with us and signed autographs.
2000 The personal tour of Biltmore’s filming sites. Driving across the Bass Bridge. The darkness at the Bear Den campground and being happy that I had my big flashlight. The sounds of the bagpipes being played by Barrett Taylor. The talk given by Clabert Menard on being a woodsman. Seeing Eric Hurley propose to Sharon in front of all of us.
2001 Seeing Wes Studi thoroughly enjoy watching Last of the Mohicans with his fans. Loving every minute of listening to him talk about making the movie. Going horse back riding and getting soaked by the rain. Sitting around the campfire with the MacWilliam Clan and hearing them talk about their secret recipe for making “Ping”.
2002 The thrill of rafting down the river for the 1st time in my life. Listening to our guides who were there when the movie was filmed. Visiting all the waterfalls again. Looking at Scottie Willis’s collection of photos from the movie set. Hiking Table Rock with our friends dressed in period clothing.
2004 My dream come true: “7 days of the Gathering”. White water rafting again and this time the water was high! Meeting Russell Means in person. Enjoying the Mohican games. Seeing the joy on Rich’s face wearing his own woodsman clothes and weapons. The sadness I felt having to leave early…
The best thing of all has been getting to know the other gatherers, and sharing this common love of the movie!

YOUR MOHICANLAND FORECAST
Almost spontaneously, after being innocently suggested by Eric Hurley (Soldier #2) on our Bulletin Board several months ago, the idea of a Mohican Gathering grew out of a love for the film, a desire to see the locations, and, probably most of all, a gnawing craving to meet one another ...
So began our first informational page about the Great Mohican Gathering of 1998. In 1999 we saw another Gathering come and go ... one that would be very hard to top. Never ones to turn our backs to a challenge, we turned our thoughts to a Third Annual Great Mohican Gathering. Whether it, the 2000 Gathering, was more successful or not is a matter to be determined by those who came. The 2001 Great Mohican Gathering is behind us, and now the Gathering of 2002 rates as still another smashing success ...
2003, unfortunately, had to be "postponed." And, in 2004 the Gathering continued with many new faces [even places!] ... as did 2006 and 2008 and 2010 ...

WHAT THIS IS NOT: In no way is this Event associated with the Mohican tribe, and no offense is intended. The name of Mohicans is borrowed strictly from the title of the novel & film!
