Thanks for the explanation, Joe. I've heard of urine being used in the tanning process, but not brains. Very interesting.

: Native Americans used every part of the animal for something, nothing was wasted.

What a shocking notion for we who were raised in a society where the highest compliment in advertisements for new products is (or has been) "disposable." Hope we are getting away from that. Native Americans had it right!

: An old saying I've heard for years is, "Every animal has just enough brains to save his hide, one way or another!"

Except for people??

: Now about my post, I know Hawkeye was wet when he was in Col. Munro's office, but his shirt and his hair looked quite dry when he stepped into the surgery to see Cora & Uncas just moments later. "Clear it up for you any?"

Yup! And I agree, he looked pretty dry by the surgery scene. But that is such a tension-charged scene, I'm afraid I forget all other details, save the emotions playing out on his and Cora's faces.

: Here' another site you guys will find interesting!

"What site? When? There was no site!" ;o) Could you re-post the URL for us? Thanks.

Marcia
