I think Magua had a moment of pity for Alice when he held out his hand but I will never forget the look he had after she jumped. It was like he shrugged his shoulders and said "win some, lose some". He just killed a man and drove a woman to suicide and yet he acted like it wasn't a big deal. The man really had no heart and I believe he would have killed Alice eventually if she had taken his hand. I always wondered why she leaped considering she must have known the others were right behind Uncas and would have more than likely saved her. Lynne
