: : : : Now that I'm totally hooked on LOTM and after many visits to this site, I now watch the movie with a greater attention to detail.  My question is who is and is not in the canoe during the trip across the lake to the fort?  Hawkeye is plainly visible in the water, as is Cora in the canoe.  I'm assuming that Alice is in the canoe as well.  But what about the other three men?  I guess what puzzles me is that their clothes seem dry when they are walking through the fort.  Even Hawkeye, who can be seen in the water at the side of the canoe, seems remarkably dry.  If all four men were guiding the canoe from the water, shouldn't they all be a little more waterlogged?

: : : We've discussed this wet/dry situation several times in the past, with no real "final answer."  It seems to me that I recall there was footage shot that covered the time it took them to get from the water's edge to the fort.  I believe there might even have been a bit of a skirmish or fight of some sort, as I think I recall that THAT'S where Uncas receives the injury Cora is later seen treating.  But my take on it is that enough time passed before they actually got into the fort for them to dry out a bit.  If you look closely, though, you can see that Hawkeye's clothing has some large wet patches here & there...and since I'm pretty sure it wasn't drip-dry wear, it must mean that some time elapsed, even though we aren't shown that.  (Cutting room floor stuff, maybe?)  Perhaps the script pages here on this site will clear that up.  Mayhap someone would post the appropriate link????  Please??? ;o)

: : Follow up 'The Approach' script link with the 'Lake George/Fort William Henry' scene to get a good picture of the events. Upon arrival, Alice & Cora's clothing is described as WET & muddy, by the way. (The origin of Uncas' wound is one scene that ought to have made the DVD cut!}

: Many thanks to both MMMMarica and Elaine.  The script indicates that all four men were in the water guiding the canoe.  So, I guess we have to either believe that it was a very long walk from the water to the fort or just accept this as a movie-making quirk.   As Elaine points out, the script also describes how Uncas was injured, which isn't explained in the movie.  Thanks!!
