Yes, I understand what you are saying, but, reading your response, I am not sure if you understood what I said. You'll get no argument from me on the fact that war takes a terrible toll on everybody involved and that the highest price is paid by the civilians. However, my post was not about that. It was written in the light of our debate on the (im)possibilities of compensation. In that view, and because I have been studying WWII history for some 20 years now, I found your Dresden argument the most thoughtprovoking, which is why I picked up on it.

Vita, I don't quite see what points are served with your post, except that it points out something we had already established and agreed upon: war is cruel and humanity is capable of any kind of atrocity.
Furthermore, you suddenly seem to make a giant leap from compensation to punishment, which, in my opinion, are entirely different things.
