I've just viewed two of DDL's films I have not seen in a while: My Beautiful Laundrette and My Left Foot. He is superb -- I need new adjectives, a new language for his talent. I nearly cried for him in MBL -- the street kid soft as mush underneath, aching for his love object, closeting the love that dare not speak its name. He broke me heart.

I introduced a 25-yr-old friend to MLF -- the same friend I've been delighting with LOTM bloopers. Of course he was astounded at the diverse characters that DDL developed.

Ain't movies grand? Gore Vidal says that American cinema is all this country will be remembered for.
