Or so somebody called the movie, The Patriot. It is out in video stores now, and I watched it again the other night. I had seen it in the movies, but this second viewing really brought it home. The movie has no redeeming value regarding history, authenticity, reenactment etc. None. It is purely and simply a Mel Gibson action film set in the Rev War period. I expected Joe Pesci to jump out of the bushes and go off on a routine complaining about the Stamp Act ala
Lethal Weapon IV. It was enjoyable as a Mel Gibson film, but a great disappointment taken any other way. It certainly does NOT compare to Michael Mann's filming of LOTM.

So sayeth the Gnome
