Magua's Telescoping Tomahawk

The one in the "Ambush" scene.

Didn't see it mentioned in the script.

Now I know there's a lot of attention to historical accuracy in the movie. (OK, so Chingachcook's gunstock warclub is a bit on the large size.)

This telescoping tomahawk is unusual, to say the least, and gimmicky--I can't imagine it would be in there if there weren't some pretty sound historical provenance.

Anyone know what it is?
