Hi Theresa,
Yup! We've seen that several times on this board -- "hi folks, I'm doing a school project, what's the answer?" I find what really bothers me about the laziness you mention is that by not DOING the task--using old tools and new--they do not learn problem-solving skills and the ability to do analysis. I rarely meet a teenager these days with what I consider adequate problem-solving skills, the ability to work a problem through to the end all by themselves, analyze information, synthesize, and come up with solutions and answers.

I'll never forget the day the 16-year-old taking care of my cats while I was away told me I had ran out of catfood several days ago, so the cats had been hungry for three days. Now, basic problem solving might have prompted him to look around, open the closet door next to him and the cat bowls, and find bundles of catfood; or even go to the store to spend $3 on cans of catfood knowing that if I'm paying him to take care of the cats I would probably reimburse him the $3. But NOOOOOOO, my cats were starving when I came home!! I've seen that kind of thing over and over again -- can't learn to think problems through because they want to be spoonfed the answers.

OK, I think I'll leave this soapbox now! :>))

LHK,
Sarah

: Sarah,

: Totally agree. While technology is a wonderful resource, heck, were it not for technology many of us would never have met, I believe it is creating a laziness when it comes to doing research. I find that students don't know how to use encyclopedias, world almanacs, an atlas, geographical and biographical dictionaries, current biographies. [snip]

: : Scott,

: : I'm with you. But my little quirk is that people should spend some time doing a little research (using the search engine on this site would have uncovered the discussion you are referring to) before asking people to do the work for them.

: : Especially for a school project. The most important part of a school project is the work you put into it, learning how to research and problem-solve. I'm happy to provide answers but only when people indicate to me they've made a good faith effort to find things out on their own rather than asking for the answer to be handed to them.

: : Just my opinion, too.

: : Cheers,
: : Sarah M.

: : : : if anyone know anything about the signing of the greenville ohio treaty please email me at katiebird06@yahoo.com thankyou

: : : If you look further down the page, (around August 4), there was significant discussion of the treaty.

: : : Now perhaps someone here will be happy to email you, but I've got this little quirk. When you post a query on a discussion board it's good manners to come back and see what people have come up with, acknowledge it, and perhaps even give something back.

: : : Just my opinion.
