: Does anyone else think that Alexandra Cameron was pregnant? I did. Any comments? Danalee

: : : : : Parker,
: : : : : The answer is Yes. It`s an authentic pattern. I`m not a big fan of stays either but all women wore a bodice or vest. They had to because the shift or chamise was so shire and loose. There had to be some support. Where all have you looked for patterns?

: : : : I've looked through all the catalogs I have at home, Jas Townsend, Jarnagin's, Fox River, etc. vut the problem was I didn't know what it was called. Perhaps I found what I was looking for, but just didn't know it. Do you know what something like that would be called?

: : : Parker,
: : : this may not be of that much help to you, but there have been a few posts discussing period dressing, as in the movie.

: : Here it is. Thanks, Jo.

To all,
Alexandria has on a "Bed Jacket" over a fancy Chemise with ruffles and her regular shirt. Jas Townsend says it was worn in place of a bodice. This may have been the only nice things she had, on the frontier, to wear when company came calling and they already had one guest when our three heros arrived. This was a common way to "dress up". I also notice that she had ties on each side, down the front and pockets low on the sides. The ties, maybe but I`m not sure about the pockets. Jas Townsend and Son has all this in their catalog.
