Posted - January 09 2008 : 12:40:01 PM For all of you gals out there who adore, as I do, the Jane Austen novels, there is great news!
Masterpiece Theater will begin a series this coming Sunday (Jan. 13th) that will show adaptations of all 6 of her novels. Most of them are new productions. But two of them were acquired from A & E and have been shown before. One of those is "Emma" and the other is...... drum roll, please...... "Pride and Prejudice." Yes, ladies. It's the one with Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy. If you have been living in a tin can and have never seen this amazing production... do not miss it!
Anyway, I am really looking forward to this series. Masterpiece Theater airs each Sunday evening on the PBS network. The series will begin with "Persuasion" on the 13th, "Northanger Abbey" on the 20th, and "Mansfield Park" on the 27th.

Posted - January 14 2008 : 4:09:14 PM I own A&E's Pride & Prejudice, Emma, & Sense & Sensibility all on DVD and watch them religiously, just as I've read the books.
This is exciting news!
Elizabeth Bennett = my hero. |

Many PBS stations repeat Masterpiece Theater later within the week. Check the listings of your local station to see if it does. You may still be able to view or record it. And even if you miss one week, there are still many more to come!
You're right! They're replaying it in the middle of the night, so I'm taping it then. |

Ah-HA! So, it's not just my eyes, or my TV! I watched my DVDs of the show again just a couple of weekends ago, and sat there wondering, yet again what was the matter with my DVD player! Thank you, Diana, for confirming for me that it is not my equipment! On mine, it seems like the first DVD is the worst. I mean, it is very viewable, just sort of washed out. The second one is a bit better. I wonder what the heck happened? |

I'm in the same boat with you Red. I really enjoyed the Ciaran Hinds' version of Persuasion and am very much looking forward to Northanger Abbey!
I loved Ciaran Hinds in Persuasion. He looked so handsome in it! |

Well I have not been living in a "tin can" and still have not seen P&P...no excuse I know especially with Colin Firth in it. |

That is really the only acceptable reason for not having seen P&P, you know!
Now, I wonder if I can get antenna reception on PBS. I really hope so, or I'll just have to cry.
Northanger Abbey is my second favorite JA novel, after Pride and Prejudice, of course, and I've never seen a prodction of it. And it would be hard to beat the version of Persuasion with Ciaran Hinds as Frederick.
Looks like my nights will be busy for the next week or so . . . IF I can get the channel to come in! (Here's hoping. ) |

I was going to post a reminder in the Comanche Moon thread for this Obi but looks like you beat me to it. I have been waiting so long for this one. Let's hope it does air Sunday night CBS 9pm Eastern/8pm Central. It was to air so many times before that I was beginning to lose hope it ever would air.
Must admit I too will have to see the Masterpiece Theater series of Jane Austen novels. Sounds excellent. |

Ouch!!! I bet they're the same time too!!! Have the tivo set for Commanche Moon already and was gonna set it for the Jane Austen series as well. I hate to say it, but Larry McMurtry beats out Jane Austen for me. Unless they replay Commanche Moon at another time and I can record it then. Decisions...decisions |
