This weekend the Fort corp. itself is hosting an F & I encampment at nearby Lake George Battlefield Park. From what I hear this might be a first for the corp.
Anyone going?
I only have a couple of days left to roll cartridges and watch LOTM for the umpteenth time. . .
As I prepared for the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Bushy Run a couple of weeks ago (I was with 'a company of the 60th'), I finally got around to watching Unconquered with Gary Cooper.
This may be old news to some, but I noted a few scenes and lines seem to have been borrowed by M. Mann and put into LOTM. |

Hey Dave! One of the problems you may be having with the upload from your computer is that the image is too big - megabytes, wise. I am going to try to adjust the settings to a larger acceptance size. Maybe, you will have better luck. As Fitz says though, if you have the image up on the Internet somewhere, linking is the way to go! |

First you have to put the picture online on some web site or server. Then you copy the URL and past it into your message. To do that, you click on the icon that looks like little mountains with a sun over them. It produces board code with brackets and you past the URL of the image in the middle between the two center brackets. |

Ok, so how does one (challenged as I am with technical things) upload a picture?
I thought at one point James Neel posted some instructions.
I cannot seem to get it to work (uploading from my desktop and inserting an image from the icon).
In the meantime, anyone heading up to Ft. Niagara for the Devil's Hole Massacre 250th anniversary? I'll be with a 'company of the 60th.'

The display was done by Tom Apple who goes by "The Trading Party" on Facebook. Some of the stuff also belonged to Nathan Kobuck who once worked at the Heinz museum when the War for Empire collection was there back in 2005. Most of my time was spent in the French camp and the person that mentioned Mike was in our camp at night having a few drinks. There were highlanders there, but as far as the others, when you are looking down a gun barrel at them, all Brits look the same! 
There were two tacticals each day and a live shoot on Saturday night, so not much time for wandering around. And besides, when we did wander into the fort, people kept staring at us. Oh, and the painted guns are copies of Wilson "G" trade guns and the painting based on extant examples and period descriptions. I was by myself and the unit that was kind enough to let me take the field with them was from the Pittsburg area, Belle Reviere. Roger Mansfield was the commander, but it was the one known for the purple leggings and used to be commanded by George "Butch" Rogers. He is still the field commander for all practical purposes since he seem to be the only one who knows the French drill of 1755, and the only one who understands any French at all. |

That's a great trade goods display in the next-to-last photo! Do you know whose that is? I note with interest the painted muskets/rifles! One of the guys in the Weiser Battalion often uses a painted musket that is about the same color as the red/orange one. |

Fitz,
Several people from the Augusta Regiment and Weiser's Battalion were there. You would know them by their snappy, dark green coats, with either red or green facings. I would have been there, as well, but I had to be in the Rev War era that weekend. Another group I belong to puts on the Battle of Newtown event every year at Newtown Battlefield State Park, near Elmira, NY. Since I am on the planning committee, I pretty much have to be there. It's a nice event, but I would rather have been at Fort Freddie!
I know that (not sure what his rank is now) Malcom McWilliams, aka Mark Hagenbuch, from these boards years ago, was there with the 42nd. |

Some pics of the Muster last weekend at Fort Frederick. This was a great event. The location, weather, people and staff were the best. Even a live shoot on Saturday afternoon. The Brits had a lot of attendees (lots more than pictured and regular units like the 42nd. some of which knew Mike Slease) and lived in and around the fort. The French had their camp along the tree line toward the visitors center. There were three French units, Belle Reviere, Compagnie Dumas, and Ste. Famillie, the latter fielding as Canonnier/Bombardier with two guns. Might be something to think about for next August.

Good guess, MG. Actually, they do look like they have wings! Maybe that's how they got their name. It's actually just a large piece of canvas stretched over a center ridge pole and supported by upright poles and staked down with ropes. Makes a nice shelter from the sun and the rain.
This was taken on Saturday evening, just about the time Dave was cleaning his musket nearby. Our fly is the end one on the far left. It was a beautiful evening, and this is my favorite time at these events. The public is gone, campfires are started, food is cooking, people are relaxed and chatting... Glorious!!!

@ MG: That title was bestowed upon me last year at Bushy Run, by my previously-mentioned buddy Nick (Ourry's Coy. / 60th RAR); and the joke was continued at this year's Fort Niagara and Bushy Run reenactments. The reason behind it had to do with my commentary on a 'Billy Jack'-type protester, at the Bushy Run reenactment in 2012, which had both my lads and Nick's messmates in stitches.

Hey Wilderness Woman, you may have seen me - I was the guy cleaning his musket just before sunset on Saturday night at the stockade fence right by the road! That must have been your kitchen fly right by me!
Hey Sgt. Munro - Who? What? Sgt. Munro Sir! Aren't you the one keeping us in stitches with a running commentary?!!? LOL.
I was with Ourrey's 60th at Bushy Run and at Ft. Niagara this year. My 'regular' 60th unit is Schlosser's (George Bougher's), but they didn't make the trips this year. Needless to say it was very special to me (and my daughter Alyssa) to have been able to fall in with Capt. Graham's unit. And what a great unit it is!
I just tried to attach a pic but no go. I'll try again.

I was also at Bushy Run. I was with a group from the Conrad Weiser Battalion of Pennsylvania Provincials, but we came as pack horse drivers. However, the commanding officers invited us to camp with Col. Bouquet's troops because they know us well and know we do an excellent impression. Our kitchen fly was down at the end of the row, closest to the road. Great event!
I know that Tad Miller (not on these boards) will be at the Lake George event, but not as military. Be does an 18th century children's games setup. He was also at Bushy Run with the games. He was set up across the dirt road from the British camps.
