UGH!!! I am trying my best to get through Russell Means's book. I've had it since the Gathering he attended and have just now picked it up to read. I've had several of you to warn me how difficult it is to get through. I'll keep "treading".

I actually read the book for independent reading in high school and couldn't put it down. I think I was 16 years old at the time. As an impressionable teenager from a small, rural mountain town in North Carolina, I was blown away. As an adult, I often reflect on "Where Whitemen Fear to Tread" and how it has contributed to making me the open-minded person I am today. I'm not hyping Mean's book up. It just made me think how it had a part in shaping the person who I have become.

Whew!...Just finished the book. It was most difficult to get through. He did soften a little...very little...in the end. I'm not sure that I can watch LOTM and have the same feelings toward Chingachgook as before.

Certainly never read the book, and not about to. However, on another site, I have seen a number of his quotes, - we don't have very much in common.

I don't know how Russell feels today, but when he wrote this book he came across racist and full of hate for the white man...maybe justified in part. He has no use for Christians, either.

You know, I've never read my copy ... a friend of mine borrowed it 6 years ago and kept asking me questions. Seems like I spent a lot of time arguing/explaining points ... weird book, apparently. It was hard for me to read and I wasn't even reading it!
