It could be a good day for remembering the past. Years have gone by since I scouted for my cousins of the 77th Regiment. It has been quite some time since I last heard nary a word from them in Scotland. We are all old men, Three Tales, Seamus and myself having grandchildren now to make us smile in our wintered years. The snow began falling before daybreak. Magdalena, to me still a beauty though she has grayed, was out of the warm bed about that time and began baking bread. Water was boiling for tea, so I was up also, dressed, and brought in more firewood so I could sit and not go out in the weather, if it does want to lay down the "schoene weiss schnee" until evening.
Sitting here, writing in my journal, having a bit of the pipe and sweetened tea......it is very pleasant. Three Tales is probably doing the same.....but without the pipe. I wonder about cousin Seamus and certainly wish we lived closer, his cabin being several days journey north. Hmmmm, a hunt comes to mind. A hunt of many years ago, when I first began these Chronicles. Hmmmm, I believe I called the journal entry "Morning Dress". It was the winter before we met our cousins Malcolm and Davey, before we had all the adventures with our two uncles - Quasi and Angus. Many years ago, many memories....most good, some sad, some downright sidesplitting with humor! I wonder what Three Tales and Seamus remember.....as I doze off in front of the warm hearth, as the snow falls silently outside......as the memories drift in and out......pax aye......Many Flags of the Allemaengel

Seamus....
You are quite welcome on the matter of the brisket....and a thank you is in order for the name of house 2. I have the blankets loaded into the wagon, and extra candles will be at hand. Tomorrow morning we will make the final preperations of food and get them stowed into the wagon with the rest of our belongings. We will leave early for Raestown and the Village to be there by mid afternoon.
We will be thinking of you.....and share a mug in your honor.

Pax Aye!!

Ah, Sjt! There's been snow on the banks of the Rappahannock, down here Virginia way, for a week now -- and a dense fog was hanging heavy in the morning air. Winter at last! I guess we've finally got the cold weather we wished for back in August at Bushy Run.

Its a hard road from here to Bedford Village, but I will be there in time for the tomorrows' evening meal. Make sure there's a place by the fire. I need to hear about those "good old days" yer speaking of!

Cousin Davey........the buildings at Old Bedford Village are:

1--Biddle House
2--Kegg-Blasko House
3--Fungaroli House
4--Semanek House (HQ of The Augusta Regiment)
5--Christ Church
6--not open for viewing
7--Williams Cabin
8--Clouse House (Pete Dobbs' Leather Shop)
9--Knisley School
10-Shoop House
11-Shaffer House
12-Heming House
13-Pendergrass Tavern
14-Ice Cream Parlor
15-Feather's Bakery

on and on-----through 50.

33 is Gilson House (apartment upstairs the gals stay in)

Be sure to take warm clothes and blanket. Remember we had MINUS 3 degrees last Saturday morning............ Also, get firewood from behind the Visitor's Center (Roger OK'd it for us) and use it with the wood on the porch. That wood is wet and will not burn well at all. It is slab wood.

Oh, and by the way, the gift of brisket was much appreciated and delicious! The dark-haired lass enjoyed it also.....but didn't think much of the crystal clear liquid in the amber bottle!! Heheheheh! .........more for ME! YoooooH-HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

If you can get to Bedford by tomorrow afternoon you can "hook up" to all of it for the whole weekend!! Save you a place at the table??

Davey Gunn Posted - December 11 2002 : 11:27:26 PM
Oh yeah.....i forgot.....i also have some bear meat, one squirell, and two of my famous briskets (looks like "burnt wood"!!)to cook in the fireplace in house 2 (gotta find out what the name of that house is!)...besides the "spinning hen" and the hindquarter of venison. MMmmmmmm......good fixin's!!
Many Flags Posted - December 11 2002 : 06:25:29 AM
Oh, noooooo...here we go again....beginning to speak of food, roasting meats over the fire.....the chatter will begin and not stop for the next several weeks!! With this bunch one needs only mention "roasted meats" and we are off and running. Pax Aye!! Many Flags
Davey Gunn Posted - December 10 2002 : 10:10:53 PM
And a fine hindquarter it is.....the buck being brought down west of the Chestnut Ridge by a local.....Mr. Kettler. I will be roasting the venison in the fireplace in "house #2".....being the first time i have used this fireplace. I have always been in the Williams cabin for Christmas in years past. I will also "spin a hen" from the mantel stones.....roasting a nice fat chicken we found wandering near us the other day.
With the promise of all the fine food....and "spirits" that manage to find their way to the village this time of year.....we will indeed have a happy weekend.

Aye, we are off to Fort Bedford this weekend. Staying in the cabins, talking of the year's battles and camps, enjoying each others' company. I understand my brother Davey Gunn is to make a fine venison roast and some roast chicken!! Pax Aye! Sjt. MacWm.

Two Bottle, and son Christian accomponied me to Raestown saturday. We arrived back home way after dark.....but safe and sound. We found a group of Provincials from the Pennsylvania militia in the houses. They were quite a cold bunch. The Colonel in attendance stated the temperature had fallen below zero the night before....and made sleeping very difficult. We visited with most there, scouted the surroundings, and left them in the same mood as we found them. The Colonel said they would be moving on the following day....so we will not see them this coming weekend when the 77th occupies the Village. It was quite cold in the Village, but mostly due to the snow cover....being a few inches on the ground.
Three Tales Posted - December 06 2002 : 11:22:43 PM
I guess that's my cue to start rememberin' the good old days like Flags. I too am sittin' here in front of the fire....wood has been brought in for the night, as it is quite bitter outside (a new fangled thing called a "thermometer" outside the window reads 6 degrees)and the fresh snow of yesterday has been shoveled from the walkway to the outbuildings. The cats are in for the night, curled up on the rug.....and the outside animals have fresh straw to keep them warm.
I will be making a trip to Raestown tomorrow with Two Bottle to scout for our annual weekend with the 77th Regiment of Foot. It will be a long and cold trip....but hope to be back home by midnight. Maybe i'll see Davey Gunn and his brother Sjt. MacWilliam next weekend. It has been a long time since we've set by the fire and talked. We have a lot to catch up with.
