Beltway observers are wondering whether Vicki Kennedy could fill her husband Ted's shoes as the most influential Kennedy in politics today, following a long tradition of political wives replacing their husbands.
*
BOSTON - A cancer-stricken Sen. Edward M. Kennedy has written a poignant letter to Massachusetts leaders asking that they change state law to allow a speedy replacement of him in Congress.

The note has been sent to Gov. Deval Patrick and the state's Senate president and House speaker while Congress considers an overhaul of the nation's health care system, a life cause of Kennedy's.

The letter acknowledges the state changed its succession law in 2004 to require a special election within five months to fill any vacancy. At the time, legislative Democrats -- with a wide majority in both chambers -- were concerned because then-Republican Gov. Mitt Romney had the power to directly fill any vacancy created as Democratic Sen. John Kerry ran for president.

How sad. It looks like there's going to be another death in the Kennedy family soon. . .right on the tails of Maria Shriver's mother. I'm amazed that with a brain tumor he is still thinking clearly enough to write such a letter.

If the Massachusetts Democrat-controlled legislature is unable to pull-off yet another example of Leftist hypocrisy by reversing a law that they previously championed, then I will think of it as poetic justice. Especially if it cost the Marxi-crats in the Senate their power-grab on healthcare; which like the MA state law, was also a cause celebre of the late 'Prince of Chappaquiddick'.

Just like many of the other Kennedy boys, he probably had someone else write it, and then take credit for the work himself (i.e. JFK's 'Profiles In Courage', which was actually written by Theodore Sorensen)

Overall Assesment: With Sen. Kennedy's passing, the next couple of weeks should prove interesting to say the least. You will see a playing of the 'Emotion Card' by congessional Left-Wing Democrats (ala the infamous Paul Wellstone 'Memorial Service'), as well as some creative 'footwork' by the Massachusetts State Legislature. The question remains, which will happen first?

...If anything, both my daughters and my guns, are a little bit safer now with the passing of this 'Lion' of the Senate.

I have never understood, and probably never will, why anyone would like, much less eulogize, any of the Kennedys. Doesn't anyone look at the evil they did?

C'mon guys, can you not be sad, for even one minute, that death has won another victory? The world is lessened by the death of every single person.

I know what you mean Fitz; but I am still trying to figure out how he qualified for a Roman Catholic High Mass (as was reported on PMS-NBC), given his pro-abortion stance.

Lass, with all due respect to your views, I cannot feel the least bit of sadness in Sen. Kennedy's passing. Given the deceased senator's numerous assaults on my freedom, wealth and property throughout his public 'service' (all in the name of social & economic 'justice'... whatever the hell that is), I feel no more loss in his death than I would for Fidel Castro, Osama bin Laden, Kim Jong il, etc.

Was the world 'lessened' by the death of Adolf Hitler? Stalin? Mussolini? Ernesto "Che" Guevara? All of those men threatened the liberty, wealth and property of free peoples as well, and also in the name of 'social justice'.

I usually am not saddened by the death of a murderer, and especially one who got away with it.
