Now They Demand 'Civility'?
There has been a great deal reported on Rep. Joe Wilson's (R-SC) outburst during the recent joint session of congress. To some he was a hero for saying to the president, "You lie!"; to some he was a villain for doing so, and to the rest he was just guilty of bad manners.
The fact is that President Obama did lie (which is getting to be pretty common anymore; Stimulus Law 'earmarks', anyone?) when he made the statement concerning public insurance subsidies to illegal aliens, which brought about the congressman's outburst. Looking at HB 3200, you will find no requirement for a person to produce proof of citizenship prior to applying for subsidies to aid in purchasing into the 'Public Insurance Plan', so in this case Rep. Wilson was right in stating that President Obama was lying, but it was his delivery which caused heads to spin across the aisle. Democrats have called for a 'public' apology on the House Floor, with a threat of offical sanction if Rep. Wilson declines. Add to that, Cultural Marxist columnists and reporters have accused the gentleman from South Carolina of 'racisim', implying that they could read his mind.
It is this sense of 'rightous' indignation, on the part of Democrats which I find particularly amusing. I seem to recall during the 2005 State Of The Union address that President Bush recieved a loud cacophony of jeers and cat-calls from the Democrats of both houses, when he was speaking on needed repairs to the Social Security system. This dissonance was to such a degreee, that it caused the president to have to halt his speaking for several seconds (much longer than the icy glare which Rep. Nancy 'The Pineapple Princess' Pelosi gave Rep. Wilson). Was there any call for an apology to President Bush? Was there any call for the Democrats in question to each publicly apologize, in-turn, on their respective congressional floors? Was there any call for censure, or other official condemnation of such crass conduct? Were there acusations of subliminal 'racisim'? (since some of the offending congrssmen were people of color, such could be said... if one were to apply the Left's own rules) The answer to all of the above is "No".
"This is Pot, calling Kettle. Do you read me? Over..."
I myself think that Rep. Wilson handled the aftermath quite well. He apologized to President Obama directly (which is more than what Obama has done for twice accusing the opponents of healthcare 'reform' of lying, during the same speech) and he apologized to the vice-president as well. I am glad to hear that he has refused to 'publicly' apologize on the House Floor; and that due to his steadfast resolve, he has recieved a large influx of individual campaign contributions (over $1 million, at last count) during the days after the incident.
