Good morning, folks -

On the Trail of the Last of the Mohicans ... the Expanded Edition is printed and in my hands. All orders placed to date will be shipped this week. Overall, I am satisfied - fairly - with this edition. However, never will I again call it a photographic guide book. Oh, there are photos within, alright - more so than in even the original! - but gone is the color and the crystal clarity that was the hallmark of the 62-page booklet. No, this is more of a reading material type of venture. It is very much still a guide to the locations - the photos, though, are now second fiddle to the text, rather than the main attraction. They are there simply as a visual landmark.

That said, if you are anything less than satisfied with the book, return it to me for a full refund. If you've not ordered, but would like a copy, you may do so now using the above link.

GOOD NEWS: Spirits on the River already has our event featured on their outside marquee. That explains why I've been receiving inquires about the Joanne Shenandoah concert from non-Gatherers recently. Based on that, it really does figure to be a sell-out, as was Bill Miller in 2002, so do sign-up for that event before the May 20 deadline if you'd like to be there. At that point, I will be turning over the remaining unsold tickets to Spirits on the River for sale through that outlet to the general public.

BAD NEWS: According to Stephanie Smurf, Duncan's BBQ, an eatery in Chimney Rock Village, has burned to the ground ... reportedly a total loss. Is that weird or what?!?

About my long hunter gear: Still, after all this time, I've yet to fire my new rifle! If Mac or Fitz reads this, and will be heading to the French Broad Rifles' place any weekend soon, please let me know. I'm not far from there now & would like to shoot a few rounds before Gathering time. On a related note, Private Chauncey made me a beautiful long-hunters shirt which I received yesterday. GREAT work & I love it!

Eric Schweig's "liaison" has sent some signed items on to Jayne for use at Ariel's Auction, so that is now a definite and will join those donated by Wes Studi, as well as all the good stuff we Gatherers have contributed. 2004 Mohican Gathering - Sign-up to join in! Deadline, again, May 20, although certainly we can make arrangements for you if you decide later on [except for the Shenandoah concert].

See you in June!

Cherie,

You can count on me for donations to the raffle. Will be in touch as soon as I know what they will be! I'll be bringing Karen's donations (wish I was bringing her, too).

I'm bringing a LOTM poster as well as a "Bama Basket". Could be other things as well but count on those two items for sure.

Cherie --
I'm bringing a "South Carolina" basket as well as some historical books folks might be interested in; also hoping to tote along a few relics I've seen on Ebay.

Cherie,
I just got in one of the raffle items today, so you can count on a biography about DDL called "The Fire Within." It looks to be very interesting reading and has some great photos of him as a child and alot more. Here is the cover of the book.

Theresa,
I am anxious to read the book before I have to depart with it. It looks to be very good!!!
Have you ever read the biography of DDL by Laura Jackson? That was a hard book for me to find. Had to order it from Australia. I found it on Amazon, but they wanted $112.00 for it which is way out of my price league!!!

Cherie,
You are very welcome and don't worry about the raffle, we will have plenty of stuff for it. Okay?

Kay, I have the DD-L book too. You're very generous to be willing to part with it!
Cherie, I'm going to miss you too~as well as everyone else! I've already sent you a note with the raffle items I have gathered so far. I may be able to come up with a few more in the next month or so. Will do my best. I think I'll head for Jayne's for a sneak peak at that Eric Schweig stuff!!

Not to worry Karen. If I read the book and feel like I can't part with it, then I will just order another one for me.

Theresa,I am wondering why this book is so expensive compared to "The Fire Within." Maybe not as many of them around? Oh well,I will bring it with me and that way you can decide whether you want to order one or not. It will probably end up in the raffle or Ariel's Auction.

Stephanie, was Duncan's BBQ right by the river? I think it's where Jayne and Chris and I ate dinner the first night we met up for the last Gathering. They had a list of fees you had to pay if you asked him any questions about the movie being filmed there. It was really funny. What a shame it burned, even if it's not the same place.

Hey, Stephanie! GG is right - Karen will be hitching a ride after all. Provided my mom continues to do ok. We found out in mid-March she has ovarian cancer. She's had a huge surgery and 2 chemo treatments - and is on her way over to my house right now! She looks great and doing much better than we ever expected. Karen and her hubby are in the Outer Banks now on vacation, or I'm sure you'd get a reply from her to your post.

Looking forward to seeing you, Stephanie!

Theresa,
you never know what you are going to find at a flea market. That was a great price for the book. I paid about $10.00 for the ones that I got. Guess what? I got the other biography in about DDL.
The one by Laura Jackson. It's called, "Daniel Day-Lewis; The Biography." It looks like it is going to be a good book too. This one will be auctioned off at Ariel's Auction, so save your pennies.

Sorry to be a bit slow in responding to all of the lovely comments about my being able to attend the Gathering after all. Got back from the Outer Banks (which I have a very hard time leaving!), then went to Indy to keep Mom company during her third chemo treatment. Anyway,it sure was nice to read all of those comments. Really bright-ened up my day! I can't wait to see all of you and it's now less than a month away. I can hardly believe it. Hey Theresa, are we going to fight over that DD-L book? I'm saving my pennies too!! (just kidding~I'm not much of a fighter)
