Just finished watching Comanche Moon.
While I was a bit skeptical toward the acting, I must admit - when To Be Continued flashed across the screen, I shrieked louder than any angry Indian. Especially because I have dance Tuesday night and won't be able to watch.
Your verdicts?

| This house was not built on sand or rock but on cliches. It definitely had a Larry McMurtry-ish feel to it...weird, depressing, and slow. To me, the only actor who really stood out was Steve Zahn; he makes a great Gus McRae, IMO. |

I turned it off after 45 minutes. The quality of acting was pretty bad, especially that guy who was playing the Indian scout, and everyone in the movie seemed to have a different idea of what a "Texas" accent should sound like. (I hate unconvincing accents.) I was also annoyed by the dialogue; it felt too small-talky, like the writers were just trying to stretch out the screen time with a lot of nothing. I did think Steve Zahn did a good job of playing a young Gus but, cute as Karl Urban is, I just couldn't see him as a young Woodrow Call. I won't be tuning in Tuesday or Wednesday. |

I, too, am divided on this one.
The pace -- The beginning was, indeed, very slow. I couldn't believe it! But, in my opinion, it picked up about midway.
The script -- There were some clever lines in it that made me laugh out loud. Loved it when the semi-illiterate Rangers were discussing the meaning of "genius."
The characters/acting -- I agree that Zahn did quite well at sort of imitating Duvall's style of line delivery. Appearance-wise, though, I don't think his looks matched Duvall's at all. It takes a great stretch of the imagination for me to transpose Zahn into the older Gus.
My favorite actor in the series, thus far, is Val Kilmer. I think he is doing a great job with the excentric character of Capt. Scull. Love the opera-singing pigeon catcher in the cage!
The Natives -- Sorry, but this is not Wes's best role, nor is it Adam's. And I certainly agree with the assessment of the Scout's acting. Good grief! Talk about a Wooden Indian!! Yikes!
Will I continue to watch it? Sure. Nothin' else on that is good.
Btw... I recorded "Persuasion" so will be watching that later this week. I heard a good report on it from my supervisor at work. She thought it was very well done. |

I have to agree with most of the comments made already. I had been so looking forward to this as the book was excellent, but it just lacked something. It did start off very slow and took me a while to really get into it. I do not like Zahn or Uban as Call and MacCrae at all. They could have cast those parts much better and Wes did a good job with Buffalo Hump but poor Adam's part of Blue Duck has been cut down quite a bit from the character in the book. We barely got to see him at all and then it seems like he had very little to say. Famous Shoes could have delivered his lines in a much more convincing way.
I loved Inez Scull and Inish Scull. They both did wonderful jobs with their roles and Rachel Griffiths is so good at being "slutty". I liked the "new" Clara and Maggie was adorable.
I will be tuning in to see Part 2 on Tuesday night as the attack by the Indians on Austin was excellent in the book but I am sure will not translate that well onto the screen. I just can't seem to "warm up" to Gus at all and I loved his character in "Dead Man's Walk" and "Lonesome Dove" even though played by different actors in each. These two actors are just not convincing in the parts. They should have cast David Arquette again as the younger Gus and Johnny Miller again as Captain Call. Hope it gets better. |

| My take on the "joke" is the fact that it is usually the other way around. The bird is in the cage and is singing, waiting for the human to come close so it can eat (be fed). |

I thought it was just ok. I actually liked Karl Urban as Call, but not so much Steve Zahn as Gus. He had the hand gestures down, but he's just so short and had that beard and just didn't "look" like Gus to me. And Robert Duvall and David Arquette's Gus seemed much more whittier to me than this Gus. Also, I didn't like Inez Scull at all. I think the best part about it so far has been Val Kilmer. I think he's doing an excellent job. He's the whole show as far as I'm concerned.
As far as the Indians go, the tracker was AWFUL!!! He sounded like he was reading the script from his hand or something. I wish Eric Schweig had reprised his role as Buffalo Hump because the part seems much bigger in this mini-series than it was in Dead Man's Walk and we could have seen him more Wes Studi and Adam Beach seem somehow miscast for their parts, but I'll reserve judgement until the end as to whether or not I thought they were good.
On a side note, the wigs for the Indians are a big distraction for me. I think the only movie that I've seen where the wigs look real is Dances With Wolves. All the other ones you can REALLY tell they're wearing wigs.
I'm still excited about this show and hope parts 2 & 3 are better. |

| Well I have to admit, I fell asleep right before it came on, so I missed it! By reading all of the above, seems like I didn't miss much. But alas, I will, hopefully, tune into it tonight! |

Inez Scull and the wigged, stiff-lipped Indians are on my bad list.
Wasn't fond of what's-his-face, either. The young dude who had an affair with the abovementioned Mrs. Scull.
Woodrow was so-so. Gus reminds me of a scruffy version of my uncle.
Loved, loved, loved Clara and Maggie. Those two, plus MAGUA!, made the whole couple hours worthwhile.
Otherwise, I do agree on the slow-paced plot, even though I was completely absorbed towards the end.
I wish I was able to watch tomorrow night! Perhaps they'll show it again? |

Oh, Bravo, Fitz! Bravo!
I could tell he was singing in German, but I could not identify what it was. I am ashamed of myself, because I am very fond of The Magic Flute!
Well done!

It' just "Thank you. It's nothng." Or, "Think nothing of it." Sometimes Bablefish will give some really strange results, especially on a idiomatic expression. |

| It is a movie, not a documentary. But the best was by far the original Lonesome Dove. James Garner did OK in Dead Man Walking as Call. He was supposed to [play him on the original, but had other commitments. I do wish they'd have used better rifles though. |

Slight corrections KY James Garner played the older Call in "Streets of Laredo" not "Dead Mans Walk". Call was played by Johnny Miller in that one and he did a great job unlike the current Call played by "stiff as a board" Karl Urban. The movie "Dead Man Walking" was a totally different and not related to "Lonesome Dove" in any way. Thank God as it had that moron Sean Penn in it |

Okay, I finally got to watch CM last night and I must say, I wasn't impressed. Is it me or does that Indian scout, Tonto, have to walk everywhere? I thought that kinda stupid. Meanwhile you got like eight or nine guys behind him ridin' on horseback. Not to mention they are making him out to be the typical 1920's Indian, "Me scout, me see tracks." Whatever! |
