Has anyone read any good (or, for that matter, bad) historical fiction set during the F&I War? JFC's Leatherstocking series is an obvious choice, and I've read most of it. Any other recommendations?

Not about the war, per se, but takes place during that time.
Very well-crafted story.

I really liked "The White" by Deborah Larsen. It's a novel based on the life of Mary Jemison, who was taken captive by the Shawnee and adopted by the Seneca.

Hervey Allen, a Pennsylvania writer, wrote three novels set in the F&I period: "The Forests and the Fort," "Bedford Village," and "Toward the Morning":

If your library has culled them because nobody has read them in ages, there are cheap used copies available through Amazon (probably those same culled copies). I don't claim to have read these. I started one and found it pretty slow and dull, but if you've read Cooper, you clearly have more stick-with-it-ness than I do!
